Work with your Home’s Style
If you’re not sure where to start with picking out hardware, consider your home’s style and try to find options that compliment it. This old door needed something to give it new life and Grandaurs vintage brass Eden Prairie knob entry set from the Carre collection did just that. I wanted something classic that blends with the traditional style of our home and fell in love with the tall backplate, elegant details, and vintage brass finish. The interior knob is an oval shape which I find so timeless. All of these characteristics work well with our homes interior details, which helps it flow seamlessly.
Mix or Match
I say mix, to an extent. While I’m usually drawn to keeping things consistent, this time I had a little fun. All the knobs are from the Grandeur Carre Collection in vintage brass, but I chose the short plate with Biarritz crystal knob for more dramatic passages, like the split doors in our entry, the powder bathroom, and our guest bedroom, and for the remaining doors I chose the short plate with Eden Prairie knob. I’m not bold enough to switch up finishes or totally different styles, but that’s not to say it’s wrong to. It really depends on your taste!
If you’re not sure how to mix, try picking your favorite collection and then choosing 2 or 3 from the collection.
Matching Finishes
For the back door I went with the Tall plate entry set with Eden Prairie knob. It’s large backplate makes for more drama, which I love. It comes in a variety of beautiful finishes which you’ll see below. I also love the polished brass, but wanted to stick with the antique brass I have throughout my home. In my opinion, I think it’s nice to keep door hardware finishes consistent so the home feels cohesive.
The short plate with Biarritz crystal is so elegant and completed the garden bathroom. I loved it so much I got one for our guest bedroom too. It goes beautifully with the crystal chandelier, don’t you think?
If you missed the guest bedroom tour, you can see it here.
I dragged my feet on picking out our door hardware, and now that it’s done, I feel crazy for waiting so long. If it’s on your to-do list, go for it. Trust me, you’ll be so happy you did!
