Hello friends! I’m back with more Christmas decor and this time I’ll be covering the Christmas tree in my living room. I have to admit, this is my favorite one so far, so I hope you like it too.
The past couple years I’ve had a smaller flocked tree and didn’t realize how much easier it was to decorate. It always blended together so seamlessly with all my silver and gold ornaments. This year I wanted a more natural look so I got an 8 foot Blue Spruce tree and although I love it, it has proved to be a bit more of a challenge to decorate. After several failed attempts, I finally got to the point where I couldn’t be happier. Have I ever told you I’m a total perfectionist? Well I am and it drives me crazy sometimes. But as crazy as I am, I wanted to share some of the tips and tricks that I learned in the process. Follow along as I share how I decorated it step-by-step and shop all my favorite tree decorations!

First step- the Tree. I picked the Tribeca Blue Spruce from King of Christmas and I really love the larger size for our space. I had the hardest time making a decision because of all their pretty options. If you’re still on the lookout for a perfect tree, I’m sharing some of my favorites below and they’re all on sale now!
Ribbon makes such a huge impact on the look of a tree. Always go with a wired ribbon (I’ve learned that lesson the hard way) and the wider, the better. I didn’t have a huge budget for this tree so I scoped out Michaels ribbon when they were having a sale and think I spent $10 total for 2 rolls of the gold ribbon. I wanted to add some lace for a romantic feel so I grabbed a roll from Joann’s Fabric and pinned it to the ribbon.
There are so many fun ways to decorate with ribbon. This year I tried a new method and instead of wrapping it around the tree, I cut it in 2-3 feet pieces and bunched them up in pairs. I organized them to look as if they were wrapping around the tree. The shorter pieces helped conserve ribbon, and also made it easier to bunch. Applying them in pairs (one along the top of the other) made them seem larger and more elegant. I’m sharing the gold ribbon I used below, along with some other beautiful options in a variety of price ranges.
Picks, floral, and branches can add so much to a tree. I hadn’t planned on incorporating floral, but when I had a lot of open green space, I wanted a way to soften it. I have so much white floral that I use in my decor throughout the year, so I didn’t need to buy any. The nice thing about using white floral in your tree is you can use it year round! I also incorporated several cedar branches, sprigs of eucalyptus, and picks with white berries to give variety. Once I had the ribbon, floral, and picks in place, I added the ornaments.
I use the same ornaments every year and try to add a couple to the collection each season. I figure then I’ll eventually have enough to fill a tree! A majority of my ornaments are gold and silver mercury glass which I love. This year I added a couple white and silver ornaments, some large gold ones from Home Goods, and a 30+ year Lenox collection passed down from my grandmother. The Lenox ones are so special to me because of the wonderful memories they bring with them. I’ll never forget how beautiful they looked on my grandmothers tree and hanging from her chandeliers. Among all the pretty ornaments out there, it’s important to share the sentimental ones also. In my opinion, it’s those sweet memories that make Christmas so magical.
Once that last ornament is hung, it’s time to sit back and take it all in. I hope these tips make your tree decorating a little easier this year! And don’t forget to crank up the Christmas music, pour some hot chocolate (or wine) and enjoy this special time of year!
