Another boy nursery, but quite a bit different from the past nurseries I’ve designed. This time I’ve pivoted from the light blues to a more masculine theme, based on a toile fabric featuring classic scenes of hunting and fishing. I’ve held on to a sample of this fabric for over 7 years, just waiting for the opportunity to use it. Sure enough, baby number three has proven to be the perfect opportunity to bring this lovely print to life.
Join me today as I share a tour of my little gentleman’s nursery, along with all the delicate details that make it so uniquely refined. If you love the look as much as I do, I’ve shared the sources for you to shop the look!

Paint & Trim
I used the Covington Avondale fabric as the inspiration for the design and referred to it when picking out coordinating colors and finishes. The wall paint is Soft Sage by Sherwin Williams in a satin finish and I used antique brass and warm wood stains to compliment the patterns’ earth tones. In an attempt to add character to the space, we installed decorative trim and crown molding. The trim is specifically measured around each furniture piece and drapery, creating a thoughtfully tailored design. Below you’ll see a before image, myself holding the trim in place for my husband to nail, then a progress shot after I caulked and painted the first coat of paint. While I can’t claim to be an expert in custom moulding, my rule of thumb was to measure 3″ from crown molding, baseboards, adjacent walls, and from the chair rail.

Curtains & Canopy
The curtains and valance surrounding the window and crib were quite the project, but I’m so happy with how they turned out! While I sewed them myself, I did find multiple sources where you can purchase the curtains, crib skirt, valance, etc. For the corner pleat valance, you may have to inquire of a seamstress to custom create. The fabric lining the crib canopy is a super affordable neutral stripe pattern from Hobby Lobby.
Below are a few progress shots as I was putting together the crib canopy. My husband built the wood frame that is the width of crib x 8″ deep. I was trying to keep it somewhat consistent with the valance above the window which was about 6″ deep. I sewed 2 separate panels for each side of the canopy (with one side toile and other side stripe) and stapled those to the top of the frame first. Next I stapled on the back striped curtains and then I stapled on the front toile valance. I finished off the top with a linen fabric.
Lighting
I framed the crib with these Regina Andrew clove sconces that I held on to from our previous home. I love how the warm, antique brass played off the gold crib. The chandelier is by Visual Comfort and I’ve always loved it and jumped at the opportunity to feature it in the nursery. It brings the perfect playful touch to the space, don’t you think?
Furniture
One of the first items I purchased was this adorable, vintage inspired Aged Oak dresser from the Chris Loves Julia collection at Pottery Barn. It’s classic details, along with it’s warm finish create such a timeless look. I kept our “old faithful” rocker from the past nurseries and brought new life to it by adding the toile pillow and striped skirted ottoman. The side table is a vintage facebook marketplace find.
Wall Decor
The vintage hunting art is from Etsy and I printed them in 16″x 20″ on canvas paper through Office Depot. The frames are from Joanns, you can shop them here while they’re still available. The wall shelves were from Pottery Barn kids, but unfortunately it looks like they’re no longer available. I did find a similar option I’m linking below.
Design Board
Before executing a design, I always prepare a design board to visualize the details and make sure it all flows. While some things may change, the overall aesthetic guides the design decisions. The nursery didn’t stray too far from the original vision I had and I think it turned out even better in real life!
While I think I covered most of the details, I know there’s a few things I left out that I’ll link for you to shop below! Thank you so much for stopping by today. I sure hope you enjoyed the tour and stay in touch! Feel free to follow me on social media and subscribe to my newsletter so you don’t miss any upcoming designs!
