Next up, the Kitchen.
The kitchen in our new home was one of my least favorite rooms, for obvious reasons. It was dark and dated with finishes I wouldn’t pick out myself. Regardless, I knew going into it that we didn’t have the budget for a full remodel so I worked with what he had. It may not be magazine worthy, but I’m so happy with the new and improved space! It’s amazing the difference that fresh paint and new hardware can make. Come take a look at the before and after pictures and see for yourself!

The kitchen is actually very spacious, but it didn’t feel that way when walking into it. The dark cabinets, trim, and lighting made it feel gloomy and isolated. We painted all the cabinets, walls, and trim in Alabaster by Sherwin Williams and it completely transformed the space. The light paint made it feel bigger and welcoming. Don’t you think?
As I mentioned before, we were on a budget and if you’ve done any research on cabinet painting, you know it’s not cheap! However, we wanted them to be durable and professionally done so they’d hold up over time (plus I was 9 months prego and not about to tackle that big of a project). We cut some corners by hiring a painter to spray the doors and we (as in my wonderful mother-in-law) painted the cabinet base and removed all doors to sand and de-gloss before handing them over to the painter. That cut our price in half!
Another update that made a huge difference was the kitchen faucet. Now that everything was lighter, the dark bronze faucet stood out like a sore thumb. We replaced it with this antique copper Signature Hardware faucet to match the existing copper sink. While I would never choose a copper sink, I think matching the faucet really pulled it together and made it work!
Signature Hardware provided our faucet to be showcased in the makeover. We couldn’t be happier with it’s quality and their customer service! If you’re looking to update your kitchen, check out their site here. They have all you could possibly need!
The original lighting was just a semi flush mount in the center of the space. We changed that out and added can lights on a dimmer for better lighting since the kitchen doesn’t get a lot of natural light. I love having a dimmer switch so I can create softer, mood lighting for the evenings and entertaining. It makes SUCH a difference!
We just upgraded to the Keurig K-Cafe and I’m obsessed! I even put together this cute little coffee station for fun! Love these rose gold espresso spoons and the honey jar. All from Amazon!
My new favorite cookbook is the William Sonoma Cookbook . It has so many yummy recipes and looks pretty on display! Also love this ruffle bowl by Regina Andrew. I’m not a huge fan of our granite and backsplash, so displaying pretty things like this help become a distraction.
Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope you enjoyed seeing our kitchen transformation on a budget. If you want to update your kitchen, but don’t have money for a renovation, try finding other ways to update it and make it your own! Sometimes something as small as new hardware and lighting can transform a space.

I think the countertops and backsplash look fantastic with the new painted cabinets. Would not change a thing. Beautiful and clean looking.

Such a smart idea to paint the walls and cabinets the same color. Mind sharing what you used to de-gloss the cabinets? It’s a project that I’m getting ready to tackle. Thanks!

Thank you! The room doesn’t get much light so all white paint helps brighten it up, plus painting same color makes the project a whole lot easier! I looked in our garage and can’t find what we used and I cannot remember for the life of me, I’m so sorry. I know we got it at Home Depot, so I’d recommend checking there! Good luck on your project! 🙂

Hi! Beautiful home! I know you’ve mentioned a couple times you’ve painted your cabinets, walls and trim alabaster white. Do you use a different sheen for each?

Hi Samoy,
Thank you so much! It depends on the space- typically yes. I do an eggshell on walls and a semi/gloss for trim and doors. For the kitchen, I did the walls in a satin, the cabinets and trim semi-gloss, and ceiling eggshell. All same color, but different sheens. Hope that helps!
